Born on Oʻahu and raised in Kalihi Valley Housing, Tom Lindsey is a fifth-generation Lindsey of Hawaiian and Korean heritage. His life has been shaped by family, service, and a deep commitment to the people of Hawaiʻi.

Tom and his wife, Laura, have shared more than 41 years of marriage while raising a large family together. They are the proud parents of 14 children and grandparents to 17 grandchildren, with two more expected soon. Their children attended St. Catherine School and Church, and many graduated from Kamehameha Schools Kapālama before pursuing higher education, careers, and families of their own.

After graduating from Farrington High School and attending the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa, Tom began his professional career in hospitality. For 15 years he worked at the Chart House Restaurant in the Ilikai Marina, serving as Executive Chef.

In 1995, Tom transitioned into public service with the Kauaʻi Community Correctional Center, where he dedicated 23 years of service before retiring as a Lieutenant. During that time, he served in numerous leadership roles, including Watch Commander, Court Logistics Supervisor, Internal Affairs Investigator, and Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Trainer and Auditor.

Tom's commitment to serving others extends far beyond his professional career.

Together, Tom and Laura opened their home as therapeutic foster parents through The Casey Foundation and later Hale Opio, caring for more than twenty children and youth. They eventually adopted a sibling group of four children, ensuring they could remain together as a family.

Today, Tom continues serving Kauaʻi through numerous nonprofit organizations focused on strengthening families, supporting youth, preventing violence and substance abuse, promoting mental health, preserving Hawaiian culture, and building stronger communities.
